Montgomery Rotations

Clinical Rotations

Inpatient Internal Medicine / Hospital Medicine

A supervised inpatient experience at participating Montgomery-area facilities, alongside a practicing hospital physician.

The experience

Rotations follow the daily work of an inpatient internal medicine and hospital medicine service: morning rounds, admissions, progress notes, discussion of management plans, and handover. Applicants are attached to a supervising physician and follow that physician's schedule for the length of the rotation.

The scope of clinical activity is set by the supervising physician and by the host facility, and is confirmed to you in writing before a rotation begins. Do not assume any level of direct patient contact until it is confirmed.

Rotations are arranged in blocks aligned to your ranked date preferences. The number of positions in any month is limited by how many applicants a supervising physician can reasonably take.

Sponsoring physician requirement

All rotations require an approved sponsoring and supervising physician. Applicants are not guaranteed a sponsoring physician by submitting an application. Our administrative team determines whether an appropriate sponsoring physician and rotation position are available for the requested dates.

What placement depends on

An approved application is the beginning of the process, not the end of it. Four separate things must line up, and all four are outside your control once the application is submitted.

Availability
Whether a position exists in the month you requested, at a facility that is participating at that time.
Sponsorship
Whether a supervising physician has agreed to take an applicant for those dates.
Credentialing
Whether the facility completes its own onboarding requirements for you, including health documentation.
Approval
Whether your application, once reviewed and verified, is accepted. Applications may also be waitlisted or declined.

Facilities

Rotations take place at participating Montgomery-area facilities. The specific facility is not selected by the applicant and is confirmed only in the acceptance letter, because it depends on which supervising physician is available for your dates.
